Independent Golf Travel Guides

Great golf is only
half the journey.

Course-by-course guides to the places worth flying for — written by someone who has played them, with the green fees, the contacts and the local knowledge you would otherwise spend a month assembling.

Why these exist

The guide I wanted and could never find.

Planning a golf trip usually means twenty browser tabs, a spreadsheet, three forum threads from 2016 and a phone number that no longer works.

Beyond the 18th started because that is a miserable way to spend the weeks before a trip you have been looking forward to all year. Each guide gathers everything in one place: the courses worth building a trip around, what they cost, who to call, where to stay within striking distance, where to eat after the round, and what to do on the days you are not playing.

Everything is checked against the clubs' own sources before it goes in. Where a detail could not be confirmed, it says so rather than guessing.

Golf and travel have been my two great passions for as long as I can remember. Every course in these guides is one I have played myself and judged worth the trip. My aim is to make planning your next golf holiday a pleasure rather than a chore, and to put everything you need in one place. Darren Sabbagh · Founder

In progress

More destinations are being played.

A guide only appears once I have been there, played the courses and checked every detail myself. That takes time, which is why the list is short — and why you can trust what is on it. Several more are in the works.

What's Inside

Everything you would otherwise have to dig for.

The same structure in every guide, so once you know one you know them all.

Course by course

What each course is actually like to play, who designed it, the par and the yardage, the hole worth the trip, and an honest read on whether the green fee is money well spent.

An interactive map

Every course plotted on a hand-drawn map you can pan and zoom. Hover any pin for the detail and click straight through to the club.

Direct contacts

The club's own telephone number and booking email under every course, taken from its own website — not a reseller's call centre. Tap to call, tap to email.

Where to stay

Hotels and lodges by region and by budget, from the on-course grand to the small and characterful, with search links so you can price them yourself.

Where to eat & what else to do

Restaurants worth booking, and the non-golf days — safari, wine farms, dhow cruises, mountain drives — for whoever came along and does not play.

The practical stuff

Airlines and routings, visas, currency, tipping, caddie etiquette, dress codes, club hire, booking lead times and the seasons to aim for or avoid.

The Planning Service

A personalised itinerary, planned around you.

The guides are the starting point. If you would rather have the whole trip worked out for you, I will research and build a detailed, day-by-day plan for the trip you want — which courses to play and in what order, where to stay, how to get between them, and what is worth doing on the days you are not playing.

You then make every booking yourself, directly with each supplier, in your own name. I do not make reservations for you, I do not take payment on your behalf, and I never hold your money. Beyond the 18th is not a travel agent or a tour operator and sells no travel services — what I sell is the research and the plan. There is no agency margin on your green fees or room rates, and no commission on anything you book.

Questions before you buy?

Ask away — whether it is which guide suits your trip, whether a particular course is in there, or how the planning service works.

I reply to everything myself, usually within a day.
